Walter Ruefenacht, a dentist in Lafayette, died at home. He was 80.

The native of Salt Lake City lived in San Francisco before moving to Lafayette 41 years ago. He retired in 1998.

Affiliations and hobbies: Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Lafayette Ward, Contra Costa Dental Society, California Dental Association; woodworking, music automobile repair.

Survivors: Wife of 55 years, Betty; daughters, Diane Mackler of Pleasant Hill, Jane Ruefenacht of Walnut Creek, Kimberly Ruefenacht of Greensboro, N.C.; sons, Charles W. Ruefenacht of Walnut Creek, and Robert W. Ruefenacht of Greensboro, N.C.; and seven grandchildren.

Services: Visitation from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Oak Park Hills Chapel, Walnut Creek. 10 a.m. visitation, with an 11 a.m. service Thursday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Walnut Creek.
